On 26 October 2026, Aachen marks a double milestone: the opening of the Circular Week 2026 and the launch of Circular Week Aachen, together with the official inauguration of the Circular City Hub (Kreislauf-WIRK-Statt) and the Urban Mining Hub (Bau-WIRK-Statt)—the first physical space dedicated to circular practices in Aachen.

Join us for a day that not only explains the circular economy but brings it to life: from European perspectives and the lived reality of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion to tangible local implementation. The program features keynote speeches, including one by Oliver Krischer, a Euregio panel discussion, political insights, cultural contributions, and a "marketplace of opportunities" designed to inspire and encourage active participation.

The opening event also marks the beginning of a full week dedicated to the circular economy in Aachen, featuring events such as the conference "Planning for the Future – Building Circular" hosted by altbau plus e.V. on Tuesday, 27 October; the BLE Science Day on Thursday, 29 October; and the CCE Science Day on Friday, 30 October, both focusing on innovation for the circular economy. These events are organized by the RWTH Center for Circular Economy in collaboration with the Built and Lived Environment Profile Area and the DACE project, alongside workshops, exhibitions, and activities taking place throughout the city.

The Kreislauf-WIRK-Statt and Bau-WIRK-Statt are central components of an ERDF-funded project carried out by a consortium consisting of Aachen City Services (Stadtbetrieb Aachen), the City of Aachen's Municipal Building Management (Gebäudemanagement der Stadt Aachen), Concular, and CSCP.

The opening event is organized as part of this project. Circular Week Aachen is a joint initiative of the project in cooperation with the City of Aachen, the Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Aachen), RWTH ANTS, and the RWTH Center for Circular Economy (RWTH CCE).

Auftakt der Circular Week in Aachen: Mit der feierlichen Eröffnung des Circular City Hubs & des Urban Mining Hubs in Aachen!

Zirkularität liegt nicht nur in der Luft – sie wird zu einem erlebbaren Ort.

Am 26. Oktober 2026 beginnt in Aachen ein doppelter Auftakt: die Eröffnung der European Circular Week 2026 und der Start der Circular Week Aachen – gemeinsam mit der feierlichen Eröffnung des Circular City Hubs (der Kreislauf-WIRK-Statt) – mit dem Urban Mining Hub (der Bau-WIRK-Statt), dem ersten physischen Ort zirkulärer Praxis in Aachen.

Erwartet einen Tag, der Kreislaufwirtschaft nicht nur erklärt, sondern erlebbar macht: von europäischen Perspektiven über die gelebte Realität der Euregio Maas-Rhein bis zur konkreten Umsetzung vor Ort. Mit Keynotes u.a. von Oliver Krischer, Minister für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Verkehr des Landes NRW, einem Euregio-Panel, politischen Impulsen, kulturellen Beiträgen und einem Markt der Möglichkeiten, der inspiriert und zum Mitwirken einlädt.

Zirkularität ist kein abstraktes System, sondern eine wirkungsvolle Art, eine nachhaltige Zukunft zu gestalten und Wertschöpfung in der Region zu halten.

Der Auftakt bildet zugleich den Beginn einer ganzen Aktionswoche rund um Kreislaufwirtschaft in Aachen – mit Veranstaltungen wie der Fachtagung „Zukunftsfähig planen – Zirkulär bauen“ von altbau plus e.V. am Dienstag 27.10., dem „BLE Science Day“ am Donnerstag 29.10. und dem „CCE Science Day“ am Freitag 30.10. über Innovation für die Kreislaufwirtschaft, die beide vom RWTH Center for Circular Economy in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Profilbereich Built and Lived Environment und dem DACE-Projekt organisiert werden, sowie Workshops, Ausstellungen und Aktionen aus der ganzen Stadt.
